Abstract
1344059 Vehicle washing apparatus WARD RUSSELL ENG Ltd 6 May 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 6463/70 Heading B7J A vehicle washing apparatus comprises a horizontally rotatable brush 50 programmed for vertical movement in a movable gantry 20 as described in Specification 1,344,058 having an electrical control circuit including an electric proximity switch 106 sensitive to the variation of a magnetic field by the placing near it of a vane attached to the brush which then activates the control circuit to reverse the movement of the brush. Further brushes 100, rotatable about vertical axes and pivoted to the gantry on pivot arms 102, may also be controlled by additional proximity switches 106. The switches may also be of the kind which activate the control circuit by the change in frequency of an oscillatory electric current within the switch when the vane is placed near the switch. The gantry is also provided with sprays 88 fed with water from a tank 80, by a pump 84 via a solenoid valve 86, and detergent or wax from tanks 90. A thermostat 82 renders the apparatus inoperable if there is a chance of the water freezing, probes 92 also render the apparatus inoperable if the levels of wax or detergent become too low.
