[Also in Division G3] If an automatically operated domestic washing and spin-drying machine, a time-dependent programme switch is connected in series with a temperature-dependent resistor the resistance of which is varied by the presence or absence of liquid at a predetermined level in the washing chamber. In Fig. 3 the level of water in the drum 15 of a washing machine is maintained as shown during washing by a resistor 16 which is heated by current but cooled by the water reaching the level shows so that it controls an electrically operated valve 12 to cut off the supply of water through a pipe 11. When a programmer 24 operates, another resistor 17 is selected so that, during rinsing, the water is maintained at a higher level. The Specification also refers to control of a heater for the liquid and describes the mounting of the resistors which may be separately heated.
