Abstract

A machine for coating photographic and like plates comprises a tank within which is mounted a plate-supporting table rotatable in a plane disposed at an appreciable angle to the horizontal. When the coating liquid is poured upon the rotating plate, it is spread evenly thereon by the combined effects of gravity, due to the disposition of the plate, and of centrifugal force due to the rotation of the plate. The inclined tank A is preferably formed with a back 10, a circular side wall 11, segmental <PICT:0423900/III/1> <PICT:0423900/III/2> plates 14, 15, and hinged doors 17, and encloses the plate-supporting table C which can be driven, through a variable speed mechanism 46, 47, by the motor 42. The table C may be of grid formation, carrying adjustable clamps 27 and plate-supports 31. Drying of the coating may be accelerated by a current of heated air entering the closed tank at 33 and being exhausted at 39, while any coating material thrown off from the plate may be drained away at 41.
