[Class 37] Two metering elements are connected to the same load and drive a common registering mechanism in the forward direction only, so that if a retarding or reversing influence is applied to one element the other continues to operate at normal speed to drive the registering mechanism. The driving-discs A, A<1> of the separate metering elements drive shafts B, B<1> through worm gearing. These shafts carry ratchets, C, C<1> engaging ratchet-wheels D, D<1> fixed on opposite ends of a shaft E which drives registering mechanism 1. The discs A, A<1> normally rotate at the same rate, but should either disc be stopped or retarded, the other continues to drive the shaft E, which overruns the shaft B or B<1> driven by the retarded element. The incoming supply leads are preferably in the form of a concentric cable F having an inner conductor 3 and an outer braided conductor 4. The inner conductor 3 is connected through one series coil 12 to one load wire 13, the outer conductor 4 being connected through a clamp 9 to the other series coil 14 and thence to the other load wire 15. The potential coils 7, 8 are connected in parallel across the conductors 3, 4. Should any means be applied to cause either disc A, A<1> to rotate in the reverse direction, such rotation is prevented from being transmitted to the shaft E as the ratchet gearing only transmits motion in the forward direction.
