[Class 78 (i)] In endless-belt conveyers the lower flight is protected from material dropping off the upper flight by cover plates 30, which are easily detachable and can be taken off and replaced without removing any other part of the conveyer. The plates 30 lie loosely on transverse members 26 extending between the uprights 19 of chairs which support the belt at intervals. The members 26 may be the lower parts of angle plates 20, 21 welded to the uprights 19 and inclined in opposite directions and welded together where they abut and cross at the middle, or of inverted T-section cross-members formed integrally or built-up by welding. In each case slotted lugs 23 are welded to the cross members to receive flats on the spindles of three rollers 15, 16, 17, disposed to support the upper flight in trough formation. The spindles of the rollers 15, 16 lie in slots in the uprights 19 also, and all have one end spindle longer than the other to facilitate mounting and to secure interchangeability. The lower flight may ride on horizontal rollers 18 journalled in the uprights 19. The cover plates 30 are inclined downward in an outward direction and have depending edges 31 at the inner sides, which do not meet and flanges 33, 34 at the outer sides to protect the sides of the lower flight and maintain it in position. Slots 32 in the uprights 19 enable the plates to be removed and interchanged. Angle bars &c. 35 connect the chairs together. The driving head of the conveyer may have an over-hanging jib, and the tail end may be telescopically arranged relatively to the last section of the conveyer and may have a housing overhanging that section and provided with downward extending flanges forming a trough. A scraper may be provided over the lower flight at the tail end, and a movable grid permits of access to the tail drums. Specification 360,105 is referred to.
