A cage, particularly for a battery system, has a wire mesh floor made up of at least two sections 1, 2 lying side by side, adjacent sides 8, 8a of the sections being provided with at least one projection 9, 10 extending beneath or over the adjacent section so as to prevent one section from sagging below its neighbouring section. As described the projections 9, 10 are provided by pegs welded or brazed to the transverse ribs 8, 8a of the sections.
