423,278. Yielding shaft-couplings. KREISSIG, E., 15, Aldehoffstrasse, Uerdingenon-Rhine, and RINGFEDER GES., Uerdingenon-Rhine, Germany. Feb. 3, 1934, No. 3626. [Class 80 (ii)] A yielding shaft-coupling comprises a steel spring band d, which is subjected entirely or almost entirely to a tangential compressive stress by the driving torque, acting through radial projections m on an outer member c and L on an inner member b, the resiliency of the coupling being due to the elastic shortening of the band under compression. The projections may, as shown, act on the band in both directions of drive, or they may extend over its full width and act only in one direction. The outer member c fits closely over the band d, which may have an initial bending stress, axial or radial undulations, or be in the form of a spiral or helix. Side-rims such as h may be provided on each member b, c, to prevent lateral yield of the band, which latter, by pressing on the outer member c, introduces a frictional damping effect. Several concentric bands may be used in series or parallel. The outer member c may have a rubber lining or oil-grooves k.
