Abstract

423,215. Flexible shaft couplings ; claw, ratchet, and slipping clutches. DORNIG, M., 30, Via Porpora, Milan, and FAUSER, F., 1, Via Alcarotti, Novara, both in Italy. Feb. 15, 1934, No. 5063. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1933. [Class 80 (ii)] An elastic shaft-coupling or clutch comprises solid rubber or other elastic bodies C, of spheroidal, ovoidal, frusto-conical, or like shape, interposed between axial projections 7, on integral coupling-flanges 4, 5, the projections being of such a shape, viz. provided with concave side-faces 1<a>, 2<a>, that on assembling the flanges together, by relative axial movement, the elastic bodies C are first gradually compressed and rolled between the projections and then allowed to expand. The elastic bodies thus tend to hold the flanges in correct axial engagement. In the form shown in Fig. 5, for use as a claw-clutch, the elastic bodies C are carried on radial pins 9 on a cage 8, controlled by means, not described, which always restores it to a central position between the clutch-halves 4<c>, 5<c>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes with reference to Fig. 7 (Cancelled) a coupling which transmits drive only in one direction and also allows slip on overload. The elastic balls C are jammed by the torque between cam-recesses 2b, in an inner member 5b, and the cylindrical inner face of the outer member 4b. Under heavy torque, the elastic balls are squeezed sufficiently to ride over the tops of the recesses 2b and thus allow slip. The driving-projections on one of the members 4, 5, Fig. 4, may be flat. This subject-matter does not' appear in the Specification as accepted.
