Abstract
423,075. Bearings; lubricating. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Robins Conveying Belt Co. ; Meade Avenue, Passaic, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 4, 1934, No. 10230. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] [See also Group XXVI] A bearing has a sealing device comprising a flexible annular ring 29 secured to the bearing casing 130 in spaced relation to flanged members 26, 27, carried by the rotatable shaft 90. The latter, which may support an idler conveyer roller 7, is hollow. The casings 130 have end nipples 16. A lubricant gun is applied to one of the nipples 16 to charge the adjacent bearing. The pressure of the lubricant flexes the inner edge of the ring 29 into sealing engagement with the flange 27. Continued operation of the gun charges the bearing at the other end of the roller, and when the operation is completed this is indicated by the escape of lubricant from the second nipple 16. Upon release of the charging means the lubricant pressure throughout the system is equilized and the rings 29 resume their normal position in spaced relation to the flanges 26, 27. In a modification embodying a stationary hollow shaft 9, Fig. 3, the sealing device is a cork ring 29 slidable upon a sleeve 24. During the charging operation the ring 29 is pressed by the lubricant against the flange 27, and when the charging operation is completed it takes up a position spaced apart from the flanges 26, 27. The bearings of a series of conveyer rollers may be charged in succession, the hollow shafts of the rollers being in mutual communication and the bearing finally charged having a relief discharge port such as 16.
