423,014. Heating water by electricity. MASCARINI, G., 21, Via St. Antonio, Milan, Italy. July 3, 1934, No. 19614. Convention date, July 3, 1933. [Class 39 (iii)] In a boiler comprising electrodes arranged in insulating tanks 1 fed to excess by a circulating pump 17 the tanks are fitted with discharge pipes 24 pivoted to the lower portions of the tanks so that the load may be varied by varying the water level. In a three phase boiler the tanks are supported by insulators 42 on a carriage 27 adapted to slide on rails fixed to the boiler. One electrode in each tank is connected to one of the leads 11, 12, 13 respectively and the remaining electrodes are interconnected by a lead 44 to the carriage 27. The pipes 24 discharge to the bottom of the boiler from which the discharged water is returned by the circulating pump 17 to the nozzles 19. The discharge pipes are separately controlled or are interconnected by a common shaft 22 fitted with a handwheel 23. The control may be automatic to maintain a constant boiler load. In Fig. 5 the regulator 29 controls electromagnetically operated valves 32, 33 on a hydraulic cylinder coupled to the shaft 22. The hydraulic device may be replaced by an electric motor.
