Abstract
422,763. Machinery guards. WARD, Ltd., T. W., and ELLIOTT, F., Albion Works, Savile Street, Sheffield. June 13, 1934, No. 17457. [Class 80 (iv)] In machines, such as meat choppers, in which a rotary shaft fitted with blades is journalled on a carrier 5 hinged at 8 to the frame, a guard 21 is hinged at 20 to the carrier and has an abutment 23 which coacts with an abutment 24 on the frame to ensure that the guard can only be opened when the carrier is raised into inoperative position, Fig. III. The act of raising the carrier separates the abutments as shown in Fig. III so that the guard 21 can be moved to the left to expose the blades. The shaft 10 is driven when horizontal through an axially movable dog-clutch, and when the shaft is raised the clutch cannot be engaged. If the guard in Fig. III be turned to expose the blades and the carrier be moved to the right, the motion of the carrier is soon stopped by the abutments though with different contacting places.
