Abstract
422,677. Condensers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.- (Assignees of Flory, L. E. ; 122E, Beechwood Avenue, Brooklyn, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 29, 1934, No. 16036. Convention date, May 29, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] The dielectric of a fixed or variable condenser is formed on an electrode by pre-heating to oxidize the metal, applying a coating of enamel grit and subsequent firing. The electrode is preferably made of a metal which it is difficult to oxidize such as nickel or chromium or a base metal plated with such a metal. The grit is preferably of a vitreous character such as one consisting of borax 30 parts, quartz 25 parts, feldspar 30 parts, soda ash 7 parts, soda nitrate 3 parts, fluorspar 8 parts, cobalt oxide 5 parts, manganese dioxide 1 part. The Figure shows an example of a pair of variable condensers suitable for trimming purposes, each comprising a fixed electrode 12, the upper surface of which bears a layer of enamel applied to it by the above method, and a flexible electrode 13 movable toward or away from the fixed electrode by means of the nut 17 on a bolt 16, the whole being mounted on an insulating base 11.
