Abstract

422,596. Cutting-tools for millboard &c. CHALMER, E., 9, The Crescent, Surbiton, Surrey. Jan. 11, 1934, No. 1077. [Class 31 (ii)] A cutting-tool for millboard and similar material comprises a holder having a flat horizontal surface which is adapted to bear on and be guided along the material to be cut and is formed with an extension provided on its underside with a cutting blade, the tool being provided with a handle. In the construction shown, a holder is provided with a central portion 1 and two side portions 2, each of the latter carrying a blade 5 held in place by a clamping plate 3 and screws 4. The portion 1 is slit to receive a guiding blade 7 mounted in a holder 8 which is engaged by the head of a screw 10. In use, the guide blade 7 is placed between the edges of adjacent millboards, and the device is drawn along the boards to cut a bevel on each of the adjoining edges. The blade 7 may be removed when it is required to cut a V-groove in a board. The tool may be constructed with one cutting blade substantially vertical and the other substantially horizontal. In the case of a tool using a single cutting blade, one of the portions 2 is dispensed with, the guide blade 7 being at the side of the tool. The blades when not in use may be protected by a guard, or the tool may be arranged to be supported on a base 12 with the blades inclined upwardly.
