[Class 40 (v)] Disturbed zones between a radio transmitter and receiver are bridged over by intermediate antennµ extending thereover. In one system a transmitter S and receiver E on the locomotive L and last coach W respectively of a train cooperate when passing a source G of disturbance or fading conditions with an auxiliary wire K supported on masts M which is nearer the transmitting and receiving antennµ A1 A2 respectively, than is the disturbing object G. The wire K extends beyond the disturbed zone and may be screened therefrom by auxiliary screening wires or may be laid between the rails of the track being screened thereby. For duplex operation with independent transmitters and receivers two intermediate antennµ may be provided. Amplifiers may be arranged between the ends of the auxiliary antenna which may be in the form of a screened cable with unscreened ends which may be arranged to have directional properties.
