[Class 38 (iii)] A controller for electric traction comprises a main spindle 2 movable to power and brake positions, cylindrical contact segments 17, Fig. 3, for engaging contact fingers 16, and cams 13, Fig. 2, for operating contactor type switches 11, the segments and cams being all mounted on the main spindle, the movements of which operate a separate power brake change-over switch 23, and hold it positively in one or other of its effective positions. Cams 30, 31, Fig. 4, at the lower end of the spindle 2, operate on a pivoted lever 26 provided with rollers 28, 29 to operate and hold the powerbrake switch 23, which is freely mounted on a spindle 3. The cams 13, 30, 31, and the segments 17 embrace and are clamped to the insulated main spindle 2. The controller also comprises a drum reversing switch 20 mounted on the spindle 3 above the switch 23, and arranged to be moved vertically to cut out one or the other of two motors, the movement being effected from outside the controller casing by means of two connecting rods coupling two discs mounted respectively on an operating spindle, and on a spindle having a peg which engages discs on the reversing drum.
