Abstract
422,152. Model machines. BRYANT, F. J. N., 133, Wellington Road, East Ham, London. Jan. 29, 1934, No. 2952. [Class 132 (iii)] [See also Group XXI] A toy shovelling or excavating machine, has the shovelling, raising and discharging operations effected in sequence by winding a single cable and the return to the initial position by reverse winding of the cable. A cab 1 is pivoted on a wheeled base 42 and carries a jib 6 held by ties 14 and strengthened by braces 7, 8. A channelled slide bearing 16 is pivoted on a spindle 17 and slidably supports the chan. nelled scoop arm 15 which is fixed to the scoop back 27, the front of the scoop being pivoted at 29 and normally held closed by a spring 32. Pulleys 18, 19, are mounted adjacent the bearing 16 and pulleys 11, 25, at the jib head and rear of the scoop arm respectively. A chain 13 passes from a hand driven spindle 36 by pulleys 18, 25, 19, 11 to the scoop ; when the chain is wound in, the scoop arm advances until a stop thereon contacts the rear of the bearing 16, the scoop then being raised until the rear of the scoop arm contacts the brace 7, and the scoop is then opened. On reverse winding of the chain, a spring 33 or weight returns the scoop arm until a stop 47 thereon engages the front of the slide 16. A brake disc 38 may be provided on the winding spindle and may be gripped by a loop 41 on a spindle 39 to hold the scoop in raised position.
