Abstract

421,064. Filling valve-bags. MIDDELBOE, K., 14, Thorvaldsensvej, Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen. June 13, 1933, No. 16892. [Class 94 (i)] In apparatus for filling valve-bags with granular or pulverulent material, the feed mechanism for conveying the bags one at a time to the filling spout includes means for opening the valve of each bag before it passes over the spout. Such means may comprise needles adapted to enter the valve walls, a sucker engaging one wall of the valve, or a jet of compressed air. The bags are delivered in succession to a container 6 from a vertical stack 2, Fig. 1 by a conveyer 4 provided with catches 3 or from a horizontal stack 2<b>, Fig. 2 by a pusher 20 on a screw-threaded shaft 21. The carriage 13 which moves on rails 11 is provided with jaws 14 which are moved inwardly to grip the bag in the container 6 by the engagement of rollers 24 with cam tracks 25. On further movement of the carriage, the needles 16 are engaged by rollers 17 so that the points of the needles are pressed slightly into the valve of the bag and then spring apart again, pulling the walls of the valve with them, as in Fig. 5. The bag when filled is automatically discharged from the spout 15, the jaws 14 being temporarily released before the carriage returns.
