Abstract

N - Chloroazodicarbonamidines such as N - dichloroazodicarbonamidine are prepared by reacting a hydrazo- or azo-dicarbonamidine or salt thereof with a hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid preferably in aqueous solution at low temperatures. The product may be used as a fungicide, germicide, bactericide, antiseptic, disinfectant, preservative, prophylactic or sterilizing agent with or without the addition of sodium phosphates or silicates. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of N-chloro derivatives of oxidants of redox systems as sterilizing agents. Such substances include N - monochloronaphthaquinoneimide, N - di - chloroquinonediimide, N - monochloroquinoneimide, N - monochlorodibromquinoneimide, N - monochloromethylquinoneimide, and N-monochlorodichlorquinoneimide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:N-Chloroazodicarbonamidines may be used as fungicides, germicides, preservatives, or prophylactics. They may be used in solution or in the form of suspensions containing protective colloids, and may be used in admixture with phosphates or silicates to prevent corrosive action on metals.
