Abstract
420,815. Sifting - apparatus. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., and HAY, S., 84, Horseferry Road, London. May 8, 1933, No. 13384. [Class 117] Apparatus for screening coke &c. comprises a plurality of spaced bands, ropes &c. 4 moving relatively to groups of bars 11 disposed beneath them and forming open meshes therewith, each group being formed as a detachable and interchangeable unit. As shown, the bars are disposed transversely and some are grooved to guide the ropes, which are guided round grooved pulleys 5, 6, 7, 8, any one of which may be driven. Tensioning of the rope structure as a whole is obtained by mounting one of the idler pulleys on an adjustable bearing, and the ropes may be individually tensioned by spring-pressed or weighted jockey pulleys 9. The mesh may be adjusted by altering the spacing of the ropes, or by substituting bars of different spacing, or both. To permit the spacing of the bars to be varied, the groups of differently-spaced bars may be joined end to end in the form of a chain which is passed under the ropes until the required group is in position. Pivoted side plates 15 are provided to retain the material on the screen and form a housing for the surplus of ropes occurring when the spacing is increased.
