Abstract
420,658. Liquid-meters. ETABLISSEMENTS POMPES GUINARD, Chemin de la Fouilleuse, St.-Cloud, Seine-et-Oise, France. July 3, 1934, No. 19559. Convention date, July 4, 1933. [Class 69 (ii)] The moving member of a liquid-meter is connected to a totalizer graduated in weight units through a variablespeed transmission, controlled from a balanced float immersed in the liquid to be metered, so that density variations are compensated. The float controls the transmission through a hydraulic, electric, or mechanical servomotor, and the indicators are duplicated, one or the other being operated depending on the direction of flow through the meter. The float 9 may be balanced by a lever having perpendicular arms and weighted at 14, by a cam and counterweight, or where latitude effect is disregarded, by a spring. The servomotor has connected pistons 16, 17, and its cylinder ends are connected under the control of a distributing valve 22 with pipes 19, 20 leading from the main conduit on opposite sides of the meter 1. A valve 30 operated by a diaphragm 35 ensures that the higher pressure liquid may always be admitted to the correct end of the servomotor cylinder irrespective of the direction of flow through the meter. The moving part of the meter operates an instantaneous flow indicator 62, a volume totalizer 66 and through a connecting rod 46 and ratchet gearing the totalizer 5. A stop 61 adjusted by the movement of the servomotor through a lever 55 limits the return stroke of the pawl-carrying lever 51, a spring 47 allowing the connecting rod 46 to telescope as required. When the liquid being metered is of a predetermined density, the lever 55 engages a coupling 68 for driving a volume totalizer 67 and makes a contact at 69 for an electrical signal 70. When the direction of flow through the meter is opposite to the arrow 37, the pinion 42 carried by an arm 41 frictionally mounted on the pinion 40 is moved to mesh with a pinion 44<1> for the operation of the duplicate set of totalizers 5<1> &c.
