Abstract

420,474. Uniting by fusion. SARAZIN, R., 48, Boulevard d'AsniÞres, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Feb. 24, 1934, No. 6132. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1933. [Class 83 (iv)] An arc welding electrode consists of a metal core and an outer metal casing between which is a spacing element for determining the thickness of a deoxidizing coating lodged in the intervening spaces and for conducting current from the casing to the core. The core 1, Fig. 2, may be provided with a helical winding of mild steel strip 2 having spacing projections 5 and enclosing the granular coating 2a. In a second form the strip may be bent longitudinally round the core. In another form, Fig. 5, a channel section strip 2 may be wound on the core, the flux being applied previously or subsequently to winding. In a further form the strip is shaped as shown in Fig. 7, and provided with flux before winding or bending longitudinally, and in another form a double walled strip may be bent longitudinally round the core as shown in Fig. 10. The spacer may also consist of a separate mild steel wire helix of long pitch or a number of longitudinal wires superposed by a helically wound flat metal strip casing. In the former case, the core may be of cruciform section. In another form, Fig. 17, the core may consist of a twisted metal strip 13 and the spacer a coiled wire 8 with a pitch of opposite hand. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that for hand welding the spacer may consist of a twist of paper, textile thread, string, asbestos yarn and the casing preferably of paper. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
