[Class 100 (i)] A web of paper, fabric, or other material is fed between the festoon-supporting members of #, moving conveyer by a device moving laterally with the conveyer during the formation of each festoon, the feed of the web being directed and assisted by means of fluid pressure. In the form shown, the conveyer chains supported by the runways 6 carry cross-bars 5, above which is mounted a tapered duct 11, through which the web A is fed. This duct is mounted on a block connected to a rod 15 actuated by a snail cam 9 driven from the same source as the chain sprockets, and is balanced by a weight 20; or this weight may be otherwise disposed to ensure good contact of rod and cam. A spring 15<a> and buffer 16 are provided to assist the sharp return of the duct, which is arranged to travel in an inclined path. In this sharp return, the end of a festoon is wrapped over the rearward bar, and is held thereon by a curved rubber flap 21 mounted on the duct. Air from a fan is fed on to the front face of the web from a pipe 23b through a flexible connection 23<a>, a tapered pipe 23 carried by the duct, and a nozzle 24. Compressed air is forced from a pipe 25 in jets having an angle of 30‹ to the vertical on to the back face of the web. The pipe 25 may be arranged to move with the duct. The conveyer may be provided with loose bars which are fed alternately with a step-by-step movement of the conveyer. Either or both of the air supplies may be of compressed air or fan-pressed air. The snail cam may be replaced by other timing means giving reciprocation of similar character.
