[Class 102 (i).] In a grease gun the reservoir 27, Fig. 1, is secured to the barrel A by means of a stud 26, a passage through which forms the communication between the reservoir and the pump barrel. The reservoir may contain a cartridge 29, the conical end wall 31 of which is formed with a spherical seating engaging a spherical head on the stud 26. An extension of the side walls of the cartridge is formed with internal lugs 36, which engage by a bayonet joint a plate 28 secured by the stud 26. The bayonet joint is formed with inclined surfaces to ensure close engagement between the stud 26 and the cartridge. A follower piston 40 is acted on by a spring, which engages a cap 44 secured to the casing 27. In a modification the plate 28 is dispensed with and the cartridge engages an internal bayonet joint in the casing 27. The cartridge may be dispensed with, the lubricant being contained in the casing 27, which is provided with a piston 51, Fig. 4, acted on by a spring 65. Air escape holes 58 in the piston are covered by a spring handle 61, the ends of which are riveted to the piston. The stud 26, Fig. 6, is formed conical and engages a similar seating in the metal end cover 87 of the container. The side walls of the container are of cardboard and are secured to the end cover by rolling a screw thread in the bent over edge of the latter. The screw thread serves also for attaching the container to a plate 84, which is secured to the pump by the stud 26.
