Abstract

419,215. Book-stitching machines. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Brehmer, Geb.; Plagwitz, Leipsic, Germany.) May 8, 1933, No. 13388. [Class 112.] The auxiliary and main work-supports of a book-stitching machine move together during the whole or part of the cycle to enable the signatures to be fed from one support to the other. In one form the auxiliary support S<1> is an extension of the main support S. The work feed comprises a reciprocating member 53 which carries a spring 55 and a work stop 47. When the feed moves from the dotted position to the right, the spring 55 is lifted by a stationary cam 56 to allow the signature which has been laid on the support S<1> to pass beneath the spring. The signature is then engaged by the spring and stop and moved to the support S. The signature is retained in position by springs 26 which are operated by a lever 27 and a camactuated rock-shaft 29. On the return movement of the feed, it passes under the succeeding signature. In a modification the support S<1> is detached from the support S and is actuated by a separate cam such that the supports move together only during a part of the cycle.
