Abstract
418,855. Machines for working land. GIBBS, H. H., West Street, Crewkerne, Somerset. Aug. 23, 1933, No. 23430. [Class 6 (i).] Harrowing-apparatus comprises a frame, road wheels at the front of the frame, tine-carrying bars mounted at the rear of the frame in circular castings on a transverse axle connected by gearing to the road wheel axle and rotated in the same direction as, but much slower than, the road wheel axle, and an eccentric for keeping the tines in the vertical or hanging position, the arrangement being such that the tine-bars form a skeleton drum and the tines are prevented from rotating too fast and thus have a dragging or harrowing action on the ground. The axle 3 of the skeleton drum is driven from the wheel axle 5<c> by a chain 5<a>. The tine-bars are loosely mounted in the castings and provided with cranked ends 6 engaging in a ring 7 mounted on an eccentric circular block 8 on the axle 3. Fixed on the block 8 is a lever 9 which is adjustably connected to a spring-controlled rod 10. The inclination of the tines 1<a> is varied by adjusting the connection between the lever 9 and the rod 10, and thus partially rotating the block 8. The tines pass between the prongs of a stripper bar 12. The depth of work may be regulated by skids or by an adjustable wheel 19. In a modification the tines are carried by brackets independently and loosely mounted on the tinebars and controlled by springs engaging blocks mounted in castings secured on the bars.
