Moving-tool and rotary-tool implements with means for treating soil; adjusting parts of; combination of tools; axles, and rollers, arrangement of; draught devices.-A thinning-machine having oppositely rotated thinning-combs is provided with a guard or screen to intercept the plants thrown by the combs, rollers to restore the ridges to their proper shape, a removable laterally operable rake or harrow for working the soil before planting or after removing the crop. a roller to prevent the working parts from descending too low, and means for adjusting the different parts of the machine. The screen 2 hangs from a bracket 3 between the combs 1. It separates soil from the seedlings thrown against it and causes them to fall into the furrow. The conical rollers 4 for shaping the ridges are carried by brackets 5, 6 vertically adjustable on other brackets 45, 30 adjustably connected to a cross-bar 31 carried by brackets 44. The travelling wheels 7 are adjustable along the axle 8 which is mounted in bearings carried by bent irons 12 fastened to frame members that are adjustably bolted to slotted cross-members. The draught shafts 36 are adjustable laterally by means of bolts and slots. The comb shafts 23 are mounted in bearings adjustably bolted to a bar 19 carried by a vertically adjustable forked bracket 17. The shafts 23 are driven from bevel wheels 28 adjustably mounted on the axle 8. A central roller 33 is carried by a bracket 34 adjustably connected to the bar 31. A curved rake-bar 38 is carried by a lever 39 pivoted on a vertical bolt and oscillated by a cam 43. The rake is removed when the machine is used for thinning. The thinning- combs may be thrown out of action when the rake 38 is used.
