Rotary-tool implements; indicators.-In lawnmowers in which a rotary turf cultivator or harrow comprising a series of tines, spikes, or projections is mounted in front of the cutters to clear the turf of moss, leaves, &c., means are provided for adjusting the cultivator vertically, or both vertically and longitudinally of the machine. A turf-cultivator for a motor-driven machine consists of a spiked shaft 3, Fig. 3, driven from the cutter shaft by chain gearing, and mounted in brackets comprising a horizontal arm 13 and an upwardly-extending arm 11. The brackets are pivoted on the shaft of the front rollers 2, which is carried by adjustable arms 6. The horizontal arm 13 is formed in two parts adjustably connected together by a right and left hand screw 15. The arm 11 is formed with a curved slot 19 engaging a clamping-bolt 20 that passes through a horizontal slot 21 in the arm 6. To facilitate equal adjustment of both ends of the shaft 3 graduated scale-plates 24 are connected to the shaft and pass between guides 25 on the arm 11. When the turf-cultivator is driven by toothed gearing the shaft 3 and intermediate gear wheels 27, Fig. 6, are mounted on inclined arms 13 pivoted on the cutter shaft or a fixed boss or collar concentric with it, the cultivator being adjustable in a vertical direction only by means of an arm 11, a bolt 20, and a curved slot 19 in the machine frame 7. The arms or brackets carrying the cultivators may be pivoted on the frame.
