Haymaking.-In crop-thinning machines of the kind described in Specification 11866/15, [Class 6 (i), Cultivating implements &c.], in which thinning-hoes are mounted on bars. coupling together two eccentrically arranged rotary spiders, the hoes are replaceable by rake heads for side-delivery raking and the pivoted frame carrying the spiders is located in front of the travelling wheels and is suspended from the main frame by chains or their equivalent connected to hand and foot levers adapted to be actuated independently to raise or lower the pivoted frame. The machine comprises travelling wheels 1 mounted on an axle 2 upon which is pivoted a frame 3 fitted with horse shafts 4. Beneath the frame 3 is a frame 5 pivoted on the axle 2 and provided with a forwardly extending bracket 7. Four-armed spiders 8 are mounted on the bracket 7 and on a shaft 6 carried by the frame 5. They are coupled together by parallel bars 9 on which the hoes 13 for thinning two or more rows of plants are adjustably mounted. The shaft 6 is driven from the axle by bevel or other gearing 10 and a clutch 11 actuated bv means of a hand-lever 12. The frame 5 is suspended by chains 14 connected to segments 14x on a shaft 15 adapted to be rocked for lifting purposes by means of a hand-lever 16 and a foot-lever 17. The hand-lever 16 is free to turn through a limited angle about the shaft 15, so that the foot-lever 17 may be actuated independently. The spacing of the plants may be regulated by removing the hoes from one or more of the bars 9. Scuffler blades may be attached to the pivoted frame or to the main frame.
