Abstract

418,824. Printing-surfaces. CHAMBERLAIN, S. B., St. Luke's Printing Works, Old Street, London. April 29, 1933, No. 12530. [Class 100 (ii).] Printing-plates are prepared from relief or intaglio originals by taking a mould from the original in a non-fibrous plastic composition, e,g. the composition known under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite," and coating the surface of the mould with finely divided gold or other metal, preferably by exposure to cathode rays in a vacuum. The mould may be electroplated with nickel or chromium and used directly as a printing-surface, or may be used for the production of an electrotype, or a second mould in the plastic composition may be produced from the first mould, and coated with the finely divided metal and finally chromium plated. The moulded plates may be curved for use on printing-cylinders. A large printing-plate may be produced from a number of moulds assembled together.
