Abstract

418,748. Controlling ventilation. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and JONES, J. S., 24, Buckingham Gate, London. April 28, 1933, No. 12443. [Class 137.] A method of ventilating a number of enclosures 1, 2, each having an independent air control 6, 7 consists in employing a main air duct 5 of relatively large cross-section provided with a fan 8, the speed of which is varied according to the pressure in the duct 5, so that the amount of air circulated through any enclosure can be altered without affecting the amount passing through the other enclosures. The variations of pressure to the duct 5 are amplified by a bellows 13, rocker arm 14, leak port 16, and fluid connection 19 to two pressure switches 20, 21 which control a servo-motor 22 and reduction gear 25 rotating brushes 23 on the motor 9 driving the fan 8. Thus on increase of pressure in the duct 5, pressure switch 20 starts rotation of the servo-motor 22 in one direction to vary the fan speed switch 21 operating on reduction of pressure. The switches 20 and 21 operate at slightly different pressures to prevent " hunting " of the fan. The apparatus is applied to the extraction of air containing evaporated solvents from machines, as well as to ventilating rooms.
