Abstract

718,740. Unit ventilators. DAVIES, L. G. May 22, 1953 [May 30, 1952], No. 13822/52. Class 137 A ventilating unit for supplying air to, or extracting air from, rooms and buildings comprises a housing 1 adapted for mounting, e.g. in a hole in a wall 11, or in a roof and which accommodates an impeller 2 driven by a reversible variable speed motor 3, the housing terminating outside a building in a grilled aperture 4 and having a branch terminating within the building in a grilled aperture 5, both apertures 4, 5 controlled by a flap valve 6, communicating with the left hand side of the fan, the right hand side of which communicates with the interior of the building by way of a diffuser 10. The valve 6, operated by cords 8, 9 can be adjusted so that the interior of the building is supplied with (a) all fresh air, (b) fresh air together with some recirculated air from the grill 5, or (c) all recirculated air. By reversing the fan so that air is extracted from the building the valve 6 can be set so that (a) all of the extracted air is recirculated through the grill 5, (b) part of the extracted air is recirculated and part is exhausted through the grill 4, or (c) all of the extracted air is exhausted through the grill 4. When the unit is fitted to a roof the external housing is shaped so that the grill 4 faces downwards. Specification 645,813 is referred to.
