Abstract

417,623. Steam locomotives. SOC. ANON. LOCOMOTIVE A VAPORE FRANCO, 49, Via Monte Napoleone, Milan, Italy. July 21, 1933, No. 20583. Convention date, July 21, 1932. [Class 79 (i).] A locomotive comprises a main boiler and an auxiliary boiler or boilers which make use of the combustion gases leaving the main boiler, the main and auxiliary boilers being either mounted on a single rigid frame or on interconnected frames and bogies. The following constructions are described : (1) A main boiler 8, Fig. 3, and an auxiliary boiler 9 interconnected by a rigid flue 10 are mounted on a rigid frame C supported by wheels C<1> and a bogie D. (2) The frame C is supported entirely by wheels C<1>, the bogie being dispensed with. (3) The main boiler has a central fire-box 22, Fig. 6, and two water drums 23 and is supported on a rigid main frame I. Two auxiliary boilers 25 are connected to the main boiler by flexible flues 26 and are supported on auxiliary frames L connected to the main frame by horizontal pivots 24. The main and auxiliary frames are supported by bogies M pivoted to the main frame at 27 and slidably connected to the auxiliary frames at 28. (4) The main and two auxiliary boilers are carried by a single rigid main frame having either a rigid wheelbase or being supported on two bogies. (5) A double main boiler is carried by a main frame supported on two bogies each of which also directly carries an auxiliary boiler, and (6) The double main boiler is carried by a main frame supported by two bogies, each bogie being connected to another bogie on which an auxiliary boiler is mounted.
