Abstract
417,618. Banjoes ; drums. GAUTHIER, E., 39, Rue Brives, Cahors, Lot, France. May 10, 1933, No. 13600. Convention date, May 13, 1932. Addition to 390,655. [Class 88 (ii).] The means described in the parent Specification for tensioning the diaphragm b situatedbetween the base d and the resonance box c of a banjo are modified, and consist of a rod h, Fig. 1, which screws into the stem k on rotation by a thumb-piece g, displacing inwardly the diaphragm b through which the rod h freely passes. To enable the diaphragm to be displaced outwardly, a spring may be disposed between the inner face of the ring m and a collar on the rod h (Fig. 5, not shown). The ring m is composed of corrugated washers. In Fig. 4, the rod h<1>, which passes freely through the diaphragm b and the stem k, carries at its outer end a screwnut g<1> and at its inner end a plate p between which plate and the stem k is a spring q. By unscrewing the nut g<1>, the plate p may be brought into contact with the underside of the resonance box c to produce zither-banjo tone. The spring q may be replaced by elastic cords r. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the invention may be applied to drums ; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
