Abstract

270,034. Packman, P. J., and George, S. V. Feb. 22, 1926. Saxophones, clarinets, &c.-To permit adjustment with respect to the mouthpiece, the reed of a saxophone, clarinet &c. is mounted, preferably with longitudinal adjustment, on a plate which pivots on the mouthpiece. The mounting plate b may be bifurcated and hinged. by its points at b<3> to the mouthpiece. The reed f is clamped to the plate b by a screw g<1> and plate g, being notched at f<1> for removal by the finger-nail. A screw acting through the lug b<5> and contacting with the end of the reed, or connected to a hook engaging bole in the reed, may effect the longitudinal adjustment of the reed. A screw d passing through an arm on the plate b and a boss on the ring c, and provided with a return spring, effects the angular adjustment; or a cam or eccentric ring may be used. Rubber or felt k may seal the opening, between the plate b and the mouthpiece. In a modification, alteration of the orifice; a<2> is avoided by springing the pivots on the ends of the bifurcations of the mounting-plate into apertures on the outside of the orifice.
