Abstract
417,509. Pneumatic tyres. CASE, E. R., 36, King Street, Toronto, Canada. March 7, 1933, No. 6903. [Class 144 (ii).] A tubeless tyre is formed by an ordinary outer cover 6 to one or each edge 5 of which is secured, as by vulcanization, a metal or other rigid ring with a soft rubber facing to obtain an airtight joint through the clamping-pressure of a divided rim. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the rigid rings 2, 3 have flanged edges 7, 8 with soft rubber facings 9 which are forced into airtight contact by the expansion of a rim 10 of the split-ring type. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which a single ring has one flanged edge 16 secured to the cover 6 and its other edge 17 faced with rubber 19. In this form, the airtight joint is obtained by clamping together the parts 12, 13 of a divided rim. Fabricreinforced rubber may be used for the sealing- rings.
