Abstract

417,482. Vehicle bodies ; arrangement of seats ; luggage compartments. HARRINGTON, E. G., Sackville Works, Old Shoreham Road, Hove, Sussex. Oct. 2, 1933, No. 27102. [Classes 103 (ii) and 108 (i).] In motor coaches and the like, the floor is stepped progressively upward towards the rear, such stepped portions forming the bases of the seats, and one or more longitudinal gangways are provided. The vehicle is provided with a central gangway 14 sloping upwardly to the rear and to either side the floor is arranged in step formation progressively rising from the front to the rear, the steps supporting the seats. The gangway 14 is formed by a floor 7 supported on sloping members 2 and the floors 8 supporting the seats 9 are supported from such members 2 and members 2b carried by the vehicle pillars by means of risers 8b. The rear stepped portion is accentuated by a member 7<a> to provide an enlarged luggage compartment 10 having doors 10a, which further compartments such as 16 have access doors at the side. The windows 17<a> are also arranged in stepped formation. One or two outer gangways may replace the central gangway.
