417,391. Testing lubricating efficiency of liquids. GERM LUBRICANTS, Ltd., WELLS, J. H., 736, Salisbury House, Finsbury Circus, London, and SOUTHCOMBE, J. E., 57, Park Road South, Birkenhead. April 4, 1933, No. 10042. [Class 106 (ii).] An oil-testing device consists of two members 10, 11 to be pressed together by hand, the latter of which has a friction surface possessing a high degree of flatness while the other 10 is provided with interrupted circumferential ridges slightly ground down to a similar degree of flatness. The member 11 is provided with a central pin 13 which enters a central hole 12 in the member 10 to centre the device. In use, the annular flat on member 11 is lubricated with the oil to be tested and the members pressed together. Relative rotation is then slowly effected from rest. Each of the members may be provided with a marking, for instance, a fine line on the periphery, so that reactive motions may be observed. The area of the surfaces in contact is small preferably not greater than 0À10 square inches. Specification 320,614, [Class 106 (ii)], is referred to.
