Abstract

417,385. Toy figures. BANNISTER, G. A., Oakdene, Plumpton, near Lewes, Sussex. March 30, 1933, No. 9649. [Class 132 (iii).] A device for use in the construction of bendable washable woollen toys comprises a shaped frame or frames having a longitudinal internal aperture over which are wound windings of textile materials and through either end of which can be passed a flexible wire member which is joined at its ends to form a binding for the windings. As shown in Fig. 3 wool 4 is wound round the frame 5 of wood, vulcanite or metal, slotted at 6 and grooved on each longitudinal edge 7. A length of wire 1 is passed through the uncovered ends of the slot 6 and around the wool windings 4, the ends of the wire being joined. The wire 1 is then sewn to the windings 4 by wool 9 and the wool windings 4 are cut by passing a thin edged tool, e.g. a safety razor blade, knife or thin scissors, along the grooves 7. The member thus formed is removed from the frame 5 and by twisting the wire 1 into helical form a cylindrical brush-like member 10, Fig. 6, is obtained. Two members 10 can be laid across a frame 11, Fig. 6, in the shape of the body and head of a toy figure, the wire 2 being passed over the members 10 and the stitching 14 securing the windings 13 and the members 10 to the wire 2. The members 10 form the legs of the figure and a member 8 smaller than 10 can be provided for the tail. The ears of the figure can be crocheted and sewn to the toy and the eyes can comprise small buttons or sequins or the ends of a knotted thread. Wools of different colours are employed, e.g. to produce a black face or black paws.
