Abstract
399,824. Improvements in dolls and toy animals. FITCH, W., 52, Davenant Road, Oxford. April 6, 1932, No. 9889. [Class 132 (iii).] The limbs, body parts, &c. of dolls, toy animals, and other toys are constructed from members made by wrapping wool round a former, applying a stiffening member lengthwise of the former, cutting the wool at the edges of the former and removing the latter. One or more strands of wool 1 are wound around a flat rectangular cardboard former 2 and a stiffening strip 3 of ribbon wire is applied to the wound wool and former about centrally by stitching. The wool adjacent the edges of the former is cut at 6 to provide a number of short strands of wool and the former is then torn away along the perforations made by the stitching. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 a stout reinforcing wire 4 is layed lengthwise of the ribbon wire 3, the two edges of which are overlapped and secured in place by stitching 5. The stitching 5 instead of being additional to that first sewn to the former may be alternative thereto. The toy animal shown in Fig. 4 is made from three members formed as above, the ribbon wires being stitched to each other and bent as shown. Stitches to indicate claws, mouth, and nose are added, and eyes and ears, the ears consisting of pieces of knitted fabric, are secured to that part of the ribbon wire forming the head. In some cases two members may be secured together or two wool-wound formers may be secured together by ribbon wire applied to one or both outer faces.
