[Class 9 (i).] Relates to devices used on or against carbon dioxide and like cartridges and comprising pivoted levers adapted to grip the shot-hole to prevent the cartridge from being blown out. According to the invention, heels B<2> are provided on relatively long levers B to abut fixed shoulders A<4> permitting only a relatively small outer swing to - the levers. As shown, two independent levers are pivoted on a single pin C. This pin is screwed to the body A and may be removed for stripping cleaning and replacement of worn or damaged parts. To facilitate the engagement of the levers with the shot-hole, the points B<3> of the levers are bent out and made to project beyond the periphery of the body A. The levers may be urged outwards by springs or by the compressed gas issuing through the usual ports A3, Fig. 1, which shows a body A with a screw-threaded part A' for attachment to the cartridge. In a modification, Fig. 5, the device is intended to be used as a stemming against the cartridge, the levers B are forced outwards by a plug E, E<1> during the stemming operation, and outward gaseous pressure further increases the anchoring effect of the levers.
