[Class 65 (ii).] A hinge comprises a block, carried integrally or adjustably by a bolt, spike or the like and bored to receive a hinge pin, and one or more hinge leaves each having two ears symmetrically embracing the block and a transverse slot to allow of adjustable attachment to an object. The construction shown in Fig. 3 is adapted for hinging a water-closet seat and its cover. Two leaves 16, 17, having transverse slots 24 to allow of adjustable attachment to the seat and cover respectively, are attached by a pin 15 passing through their lugs 18 to a block 14 with seating flange 13, which is integral with a bolt 10 passing through a hole in the pan. The hinge pin is preferably detachably secured in the block 14, by being screw-threaded or by a set-screw or a transverse cotter engaging a groove in the pin. In a modification, the flange 13 is extended and the block 14 is formed thereon at a position offset from the bolt 10. For adjustable fixing of the hinge to the pan, the bolt is formed separately from the flange 13, which is provided with a slot 28, Fig. 7, of T-section, the bolt having a flat head 30 engaging in the wider upper part of the slot ; the underside of the bolt and the surface engaging therewith may be corrugated to give positive fixing in the adjusted position. In a modification, the flange 13 may be formed on its underside with several screw-threaded sockets, into any of which the bolt may be screwed. For attachment to a wall or a wooden article, the bolt may be replaced by a spike or a wood screw.
