Abstract
415,093. Humidifying air &c. GLANVILLE, W. H., and ROCKLIFFE, S. C., Building Research Station, Garston, near Watford, Hertfordshire. Feb. 13, 1933, No. 4322. [Class 55 (ii).] In a humidifying apparatus for air &c., the gas is passed over a heat-exchange means under thermostatic control, and then through a liquid spray, the temperature of which is maintained constant by direct thermostatic control. Air is drawn over precooling and preheating coils F, G respectively which are controlled by a thermostat H at the exit of the chamber A. The air then passes through mixing baffles J to a spray compartment K wherein water is discharged at a constant rate through nozzles M. A thermostat P located in a trough Q fed by the spray is adapted, when the temperature rises, to actuate a pump S and circulate the spray water from the reservoir O through a cooling-chamber T; or cooling coils under the control of the thermostat P may be situated in the reservoir. Excess moisture is eliminated by plates L and the air, drawn by a fan B, flows up a duct U, and either past a main heating unit before distribution, or through distributers and auxiliary heating units. A positive temperature difference is maintained between the thermostats P and H so that the sprayed water always tends to increase in temperature.
