Abstract

414,203. Batteries. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd., and MAIR, T. G., 36, Hyde Road, Denton, near Manchester. June 15, 1933, No. 17114. [Class 53.] An accumulator or other battery is provided with a container 1 which is divided into compartments by one or more partitions 2, a lid 7 common to all the compartments being adapted to be sprung into position to close the compartments in a fluid-tight manner. The upper end of the container may be formed with a bead 1<a> which snaps against packing 8 in a groove in the lid as described in Specification 245,916, [Class 53]. The upper end of the partition 2 is reinforced by a grooved bar 3 of insulating material which extends at each end through the walls of the container and is connected to an insulating ring 4 surrounding the container. The partition is also strengthened by perforated plates 6. The lid 7 makes a tight joint with the partition 2 by means of packing 10 in a groove in the lid. The depth of the groove may be increased by projections 11 depending from the lid, and the packing 10 may be connected at its ends with the packing 8. The electrodes of adjacent cells may be joined together by connectors moulded within the lid, and the terminals may be in the form of blocks 16 approximately flush with the top surface of the cell. Filling plugs 19 and unspillable vents 17 are provided. The electrodes rest on prisms or projections 13 and are separated from the cell walls and partition 2 by strips 14.
