Abstract

In the heat-treatment of steels and iron alloys, the heated steels &c. are quenched in bath comprising an emulsified mixture of water and a mineral oil containing 0,5-10,0 per cent of petrolene. In an example, a high speed steel containing 20,3 per cent of tungsten, 9 of cobalt, 5 of chromium and 0,9 of carbon is heated up to 1350 DEG C. and quenched in a mixture of 30 per cent of water and 70 per cent of machine oil containing 5 per cent of petrolene.
