Abstract
412,899. Roa.d - surface heaters. HAZLEHURST, H. E., 23, Newton Court, Kensington, London. Oct. 5, 1932, No. 8618/34. Divided on 412,630. [Class 107.] Relates to road surface heaters of the kind having a relatively small horizontal combustion chamber into which liquid or like fuel is projected. According to the invention, air is admitted into the combustion chamber in such excess beyond that normally required for combustion, as to ensure the maintenance of a heated body of a non-burning mixture of air and products of combustion between the combustion chamber and the surface being heated. In the form shown, as applied to a heater of the kind described in Specification 412,630, the air is supplied to the combustion chamber by a fan 2 through a valve-controlled conduit 3, the air being preheated in its passage to the fan by its passage through a jacket 4 surrounding the combustion chamber. Turbulent mixing of the gases is effected within the combustion chamber by an upstanding abutment 6, and the products of complete combustion and excess air pass to the heated surface through a vertical conduit B and hood C.
