[Class 6 (ii).] A receptacle for growing plants, for use with a hot water pipe in a greenhouse, comprises a compartment for soil and, at one side of said compartment, a trough the bottom of which is situated above the heated pipe and a wall of which separates it from the said compartment and has at its lower end an opening to permit water to flow from the trough into the soil compartment. A rectangular receptacle has its side walls connected by an inverted U-shaped partition 11 below which the side walls are cut away to provide a passage 12 for the heated pipe 13. The trough is formed above the partition 11 by two transverse walls 15 which leave openings 16 communicating with the compartments 17. The water is thus warmed by the pipe 13 as it percolates through the soil. Alternatively only one compartment 17 may be provided having a side extension to overhang the pipe 13, the trough being formed between the end wall of the extension and a transverse wall 15. In another modification, Fig. 3, a rectangular box provided with a trough 14 stands on a tray 21 which has two flanged openings 22 communicating with flower pots 23 arranged on each side of the pipe 13. In this case also only one compartment 17 may be provided and the trough may overhang the pipe 13. More than one pair of pots 23 may be provided if desired. The receptacle may be made of earthenware, concrete, wood or metal.
