Abstract

[Class 8 (ii).] A distant-control device comprises a controlling distributer A receiving fluid under pressure, and allowing the flow of this fluid towards a receiving regulating device B, Fig. 1, or towards a relay C, Fig. 2, controlling a such receiving regulating device. The distributer comprises a loaded double-headed valve 3, upon which acts a control rod 7 having an interior channel 8, which communicates with the atmosphere, and which is obstructed on the inner side when the rod encounters one of the heads of the valve. As shown in Fig. 1, on depressing the knob 6, the end of the hollow control rod 7 first abuts against the end 9 of the valve 3, thus closing the passage 8, and then opens the valve 3, so that compressed gas from the inlet pipe 5 passes through the pipe 11 to the cylinder 13, and so pushes the pistons 17, 18 and operating rod 16 to the right. To damp the movement of the rod 16, liquid is forced through orifices 19 in the diaphragm 14 by the pistons 17, 18, the orifices 19 in the diaphragm 14 by the pistons 17, 18, the orifices being automatically adjustable in size to compensate for changes in the viscosity of the liquid due to changes of temperature. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the pipe 11 is connected through a non-return valve 31 to a chamber 35 containing a double piston 26, 27 having a bore 28 and adapted to actuate the relay valve 22. On depressing the knob 6, compressed gas is supplied by the valve A to the chamber 35, thus depressing the piston, opening the valve 22, and admitting air from the pipe 24 to the pipe 36, which is connected to the actuating cylinder 13. On releasing the knob 6, the pressure supply is cut off from the chamber 35, and, as the piston 26, 27 rises slowly under the action of a spring 38, the gas is expelled through a restricted orifice 33, the gas in the actuating cylinder being finally exhausted through the passage 28 and port 29. The invention is stated to be particularly applicable to releasing weapons on aircraft.
