Abstract

1434538 Valves J P GEOFFRAY 18 July 1973 [19 July 1972] 34226/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] A blow gun for delivering a jet of compressed air through a nozzle 16 incorporates a pressure regulator operated by a lever or trigger 4. Movement of the lever 4 which is pivoted at 5 effects axial movement of a cylindrical push-rod 6 and its associated integral tubular shank 6a. The axial position of rod 6 determines the pressure of the air issuing from nozzle 16. The shank 6a is received with clearance inside a piston provided with an axially disposed tubular member 7 and which in turn is slidable within a chamber 2a, with two gaskets 8 ensuring sealing of the piston ; the piston is urged in the direction of the nozzle 16 by a calibrated spring 10 the force of which is normally opposed by the compressed air filling the space in the chamber 2a above the piston 7 until an equilibrium situation is achieved. A valve 11 of square section is mounted to bear against the free end or seat of the tubular member 7 under the action of a spring 12. Compressed air is supplied through a pipe 15, and a filter 13 is included upstream of the valve 11. When the lever 4 is in its closed position the valve 11 is retained against the end of the tubular member 7 so there is no flow of compressed air to the nozzle 16. Movement of the lever 4 from its closed position causes the push rod 6 to be displaced axially so that the shank 6a pushes the valve 11 downwardly away from the end of the tubular member 7 against the spring 12; compressed air then passes to the nozzle 16 via the interior of the tubular member 7 and longitudinally extending channels id. The end of stroke position of the lever 4, i.e. the maximum pressure prevailing in the nozzle 16, is regulated by means of a screw 17. In the case of accidental excess pressure occurring in the nozzle, the pressure responsive member constituted by the piston and tubular member 7 moves beyond the normal position for closing the valve 11 such that the end of the tubular shank 6a of the push-rod 6 is uncovered and the overpressure vented via channel 6b and aperture 1b. Operation of the lever 4 may be controlled cyclically, e.g. by means of a cam.
