Abstract

412,620. Electromagnetic switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GRIFFITHS, J. B., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 2,1933, No. 13. [Class 38 (v).] A switch device for controlling a railway signal so that the signal is cleared or a lock for the hand lever is released only after the same number of wheels have left a section as entered the section comprises two contact-carrying discs 5, 8, disc 8 being fixed on a shaft 1 having a toothed wheel 3 driven by a pawl electromagnetically actuated on the passage of each train wheel over a treadle, and disc 5 being carried on a sleeve 4 driven from shaft 1 through a train of gearing 11-14 of a ratio such as 25/27 so that a very large number of stepping movements would be required before the contacts could be again in line at the initial position. The entering train steps the shaft 1 forward so breaking the signal control circuit and when the train leaves the section the shaft is stepped backwards so returning the contacts to the initial in-line position and restoring the control circuit for the signal.
