[Class 63.] A machine for displacing crosswise the folds in hat felts comprises an intermittently rotated endless band e for conveying the felt beneath a plate a which is adapted to perform in succession a cycle of movements consisting of a vertical upward movement, a horizontal turning movement about a shaft b, a vertical downward movement, and a horizontal turning movement in the reverse direction to the previous turning movement, so that during this last movement the upper felt layer is displaced relatively to the lower layer to displace the folds from the edges towards the middle of the felt. To impart intermittent rotation to the endless band e so that it is moved during the first two movements of the plate a, and is stationary during the last two movements when it is resiliently supported on a table f, a shaft x and rollers k, k<1> for supporting the band e are rotated intermittently by means of a cam y mounted on a shaft l, which is rotated continuously from a driving shaft s, and a friction coupling v also rotated continuously from the shaft l. The plate a is rotated about the shaft b by means of a vertical shaft p, and levers q, q<1>, q<11>, w, which are driven from the shaft s by means of a crank plate mounted on the shaft 1, and a connecting rod n, and the plate a is moved up or down by means of an eccentric m mounted on the shaft l, and a crank lever o.
